#10974 3 Dogs Arcade Site Rules

Posted by Legionaire on 03 January 2014 - 09:12 AM

Attached File  Cartoon-bulldog-clipart-clipartfest-2.gif   9.67KB   0 downloads  WELCOME to 3 Dogs Arcade (The Dog Pound)

Here at 3 Dogs arcade, like any other site, we have rules and below you will find a list of those rules. This is not an all inclusive list, but one that pretty much highlights what our site is about and how we like to run our site Please familiarize yourself with these rules, and if you agree with them, Welcome to our home, if you do not agree with our rules, I am sure you will find another place on the internet, and we do hope that you enjoy your stay no matter where it might be.

FORUMS - We encourage member participation in the forums, but it is not a requirement that you post here. Member participation will encourage others to join us here and makes for a better site.

  • Swearing - Swearing in the forums or any other area of the site is forbidden, we attempt to run a family site here and with that, we try and keep it safe for children visitors to the site. We do realize that on occasion a swear word will slip out, not a problem we all do it, but, for those who continue to "slip" you will be warned by a member of the staff and subsequently banned from the site if it were to continue.
  • PORN - Will absolutely not be tolerated on this site anywhere. Any posting of PORN or links to porn of any kind will prompt an immediate ban from the site and your IP will be turned over to the appropriate authorities
  • Posting - Please keep in mind that this is a family site and that children may visit at anytime, make your posts with children in mind, what would you want your children subject too ?  IF you are the owner of more than one site and are requesting support, please let us know which site you need support for.
  • SHOUTBOX - The shoutbox is utilized on this site for chatting with other members and therefore promoting good times, it is not a place where you can request support, that is what the forums are for, so please do not request support in the shoutbox Swearing, porn and posting in the shoutbox, follow the same guidelines as set above for the forums

ARCADE - The arcade is obviously the main focus of our site. We have over 9000 games on this site with the ability to add more games at the click of a button. We try and be as fair as we can with the arcade, and reset scores from time to time (Hall Of Fame scores do not get deleted). This is where most of our rules come into play, so bear with us and read these rules carefully, if you have any questions about these, or any of the rules for this site, feel free to contact a member of the staff.

  • SHADOWING - Is against the rules on this site. Shadowing, as defined by our site is when a member(s) follow another member around playing the same games. This is not only annoying but is not fair to the member(s) that you are following. To try and alleviate "shadowing" we give a member a 1 hour gloating period. What this means is that if a member (any member) has just posted a score, give them at least an hour before playing the same game. We are all about competition and it is not against the rules to play the same games as another member, but do it with respect for other members. We have over 9000 games here and it should not be difficult to find another game to play for an hour.  IF YOU ARE BEING SHADOWED AND IT ANNOYS YOU, YOU NEED TO LET US KNOW, WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING IF YOU DO NOT SAY ANYTHING.
    • FIRST OFFENSE - 24 hour ban from the arcade
    • SECOND OFFENSE - 48 - 72 hour ban
    • THIRD OFFENSE - BANNED permanently from the arcade
  • Games that appear in the NEW GAMES category are OPEN PLAY for the time that they appear in that category (normally 5 days) this means that there are no restrictions for games in that category (shadowing rules do not apply in the new games category)
  • CHEATING - Is not tolerated here by member or staff. Just because you cannot beat a score that has been set by another member, or you have not see a score that high on any of the other sites you have visited, or they regain a score on a game that you thought the score could not get any higher on, does not necessarily mean that they are cheating. IF you suspect another member or staff member of cheating, please PM one of the administrators and we will investigate the incident.
  • GAMES NOT WORKING - IF you happen to come across a game that is not functioning correctly (not loading, not saving scores etc...) please use the Report Game link that is found with every game on the site. This will create a post in the forum which will assist me in keeping track of games that have been reported and what had to be done to resolve the issue.
  • POINTS SYSTEM - We have a points system that we use for the Arcade. You can win points in the arcade and use them to buy special items in the ibEconomy shop (still being implemented) such as name color. We do not have ibEconomy entirely set up, but it is coming. Another way to earn points is by participation in the forums. At some point in the near future, the only way you will be able to play games in the arcade will be determined by the number of points you have in your account.

As stated above, this is not an "all inclusive" list of all the rules on this site, and we will update these rules from time to time. It is your responsibility to be familiar with these rules, so please keep checking back for any possible changes. Once again if you have any questions regarding these rules, feel free to contact a member of the staff, welcome to 3 Dogs arcade, we hope you enjoy your stay

#88452 Arcade Support

Posted by Legionaire on 24 April 2019 - 04:58 AM

First off, let me begin with I do not mind providing arcade support when needed, BUT!!!

  • If you need Arcade Support, at least have the courtesy to come to this site and ask.  Many times I am "cruising" the internet and I get a PM asking me for support on the arcade, whether it is to fix a game or some other aspect of the arcade
  • Even though I pass through most of the sites that are experiencing some type of problem with the arcade, does not mean that I have the time at that moment to answer an arcade support request, and if not acted upon (by me) at that moment there is a good chance that I may forget about your request for help
  • This is not aimed at anyone in particular, this is a generalized statement as it happens everywhere
  • IF you post your request here in the Arcade support forum, at least it is documented and anyone else who may be experiencing problems with some of the same type issues, they can also benefit from any answers that I or even Origon can provide
  • Sometimes it may be days before I get to some of the sites, it is a little unfair to expect that I or Origon or anyone else who can provide the type of support you are looking for, to have to go to your site to find out there is an issue and support is needed

All this being said, please, if you need support of any kind, make a post here or on Origon's site if need be, and let us know that you are requiring assistance, I am sure Origon is a lot like me and does not mind providing the support, IF he knows about it.  Hopefully I speak correctly for anyone else who provides arcade support.

As I said this is not aimed at any site specifically, it is a generalized request for all of us who provide support of one type or another, to be able to answer support requests in a timely and efficient manner

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and in the future I hope that we can begin to provide better support, IF YOU the site owners can adhere to these simple requests provided above

#97668 Targeting or Shadowing

Posted by Legionaire on 05 August 2019 - 05:14 AM

I have been noticing lately that some members are taking a large number of games from other members.  On one day I lost over 28 game scores in 5 hours, now this is excessive and calls for a NEW targeting/shadowing policy.

With over 17,000 games on this site, there is no reason that any member should lose more than 15 game scores in a day.  So from this point on:

  • If a member shows proof that another member has taken more than 15 scores from them in one day, the member who is guilty of taking that many scores will be warned of their behavior
  • If this behavior continues, the member will be banned from arcade play for 24 hours on the first offense, 72 hours on the second offense.
  • If it then continues, after three strikes you are out, that member will be banned from the arcade forever

Now I am not one that usually cares about game scores being taken, but when it becomes excessive it becomes annoying.  So the other staff members and I will be watching a lot more closely and will take measures as we see fit.

This is non negotiable and will be enforced from this point on

#96733 Installing the arcade for the first time

Posted by Legionaire on 29 July 2019 - 04:10 PM

When installing the ibProArcade for the first time, there are some steps that are very important for a smooth running arcade.  IF you do not do these steps, it is almost a guarantee that you will run into errors or problems some where along the line.  So the steps below are a quick, down and dirty installation guide (of sorts) I will try to refine this as I have time.

  • After opening the .tar or .zip file you will find 2 folders these folders MUST be loaded to the root of where your forums are located (i.e. if your forums are in the forums directory, then you will load these two folders just as they are to that directory)
  • Next thing you should do, and this is VERY important, you must CHMOD all of the arcade folders in the forum root.  The following folders must all be CHMOD 777
    • arcade
    • arcade/cat_imgs
    • arcade/gamedata
    • arcade/images
    • arcade/modules
    • arcade/tar
    • arcade/tar/bkup
    • arcade/tar/installed
    • arcade/tar/tmp
    • arcade/tar/tmp/gamedata
  • When the arcade script runs, it uses some of these folders to unpack tar files for install and then deletes those files that are no longer needed.  It also uses some of these folders when performing an arcade backup and last but not least when deleting game files when a game is deleted from the arcade
  • Once this is completed you must do one file edit, this file edit is used primarily so that V2 games will save scores on your website (this includes HTML5 games)
    • On your server go to admin/extensions and find the file coreVariables.php and open it in a good text editor (I prefer using notepad ++)
    • Find this line in the file ###### Redirect IPB 2.x to IPB 3.0 URLS ###### should be around line 412 directly below that you will need to add this code
    • 		# Arcade
      		if( isset( $_REQUEST['act'] ) && $_REQUEST['act'] == 'Arcade' )
      		{
      			$_RESET['app'] = 'arcade';
      			$_RESET['module'] = 'save';
      		}

      Make sure you save the file when the edit has been completed

  • Now you are ready to install your arcade

  • Log into your ACP and go to (under Manage Applications) Manage Applications & Modules

  • On the right side of the screen you will see a section called Applications Not Installed, in this section you should see ibProArcade, click on the install button next to it and follow the prompts on your screen

  • Once the installation has completed, go to the Tools & Settings section, click on Cache Management, scroll down the cache management page until you find Notifications and click on the two green arrow icons all the way to the right.  This, if you plan to use them, will allow notifications to be sent when high scores are taken, tournament messages HOF scores etc....

  • When you have completed that step next is to click on System Settings and then click on the ibPro Arcade tab, in here you will find several settings for HOF notifications, scrolling scoreboard etc... set these too your liking

  • Next hover your mouse over the Members tab at the top, in the drop down that appears hover over Member Groups and then click on Manage Member Groups.  This is where you will set permissions for each of your member groups on what they can do in the arcade.  Click on the pencil icon to the right of the member group and then select the IbProArcade tab at the top of the page.  Make your settings based on each group here (this must be done for each member group)

  • Once all of your member groups have been assigned their permissions, at the top of the page hover your mouse over Other Apps, then hover over ibProArcade in the drop down menu hover over Arcade Settings and then click on Categories you MUST create at least one category before you do anything else

  • Once your category(s) have been created, you can now begin setting up your arcade, including installing games

  • Go through each option on the left hand side of the screen and set options the way you like

  • To install games, all of your game .tar files have to be uploaded to the arcade/tar folder on your server, if you have no games there, you will not be able to install any

  • Once you have your settings completed and you have installed some games, your arcade is ready to use :wink:

And there you go, a quick down and dirty on how to get your arcade up and running

#95442 This is very irritating

Posted by Legionaire on 19 July 2019 - 04:57 PM

It is comments like these that make me want to just give up and go the other way

Invision Power Board is currently unavailable

I have no time right now because of college. I am 46 years old and my schooling is more important than a website for arcade games. I may be able to do something in December. Besides IP.Board v3.4.9 is outdated and my host would rather have a software that is PHP 7.x compatible. I mean if someone would get off their ass and rewrite iBProArcade for IPS 4.4, then I would have an arcade for Flash (OUTDATED) and HTML5. But thanks to all that have tried to help, thank you.

 IF there is anyone else out there that agrees with this type of moronic verbiage, all I can say is 4.X.X is dieing to have someone build an arcade for that version.  A few years back when 4.X was first introduced I asked many times for someone to help me port over the arcade and there were NO takers, so we moved on with what we have.  IF you do not like this Arcade, then what do I keep busting my XXX for ?  I am really tired of this type of crap. RK1 asked for help which I gladly gave to them and I know there were many others.  If you do not have the ability to build and run your own site then why would you even put one on the internet.

I cannot help stupid, if someone does not want to listen that is their problem.  This person (RK1) will never be allowed on any site that I run from this point on.  Not much irritates me, but this comment really chaps my XXX and I do not take kindly to childish ranting such as this

#78228 NEW HTML5 Games

Posted by Legionaire on 27 October 2018 - 02:30 PM

For those of you who have downloaded HTML5 games from the origon category and are using a sub forum where those games do not seem to submit, thanks to Blake at Origon's site, I now have a new submit code that will allow the games to submit a score whether you are in a root forum or sub forum.  It will take me some time to convert them all over to the new code, but I will begin working on that soon

#75605 NEW HTML5 Games

Posted by Legionaire on 22 August 2018 - 02:46 AM

Thanks to Origon and Blake over at https://www.origon-games.dk/

We have added 235 more HTML5 games to the site, all of these games have new submit code added to them to allow submission of the game scores as if they were flash games, in other words, they do not submit scores in the background.  You can check these games here in the HTML5 Games by Origon category in the arcade

These games currently are not being offered for download per an agreement I have with Origon, but please give them a try and visit Origon's site at the address above and see how you can also get the games for your site.

Once Origon gives the go ahead to allow downloads, they will be available here for the VIP's to download

#74899 General question

Posted by Legionaire on 29 July 2018 - 03:07 AM

There are about 60,000 flash games and 300 html5 games most of which are full of adverts this spoils gameplay

The number of HTML5 games available are rising each day, in the very beginning of this arcade, way back when, how many games (flash) do you think were available for your site ?  It is like with anything new, over time it get's better and better.  Some of the new arcades that are being built under different forum styles are bending over backwards to take out things such as adverts, links that go to another site, even going to the point to eliminate tracking cookies, so the games are getting better, like anything else, it takes some time to "iron out" the bugs.  I get and understand what you are saying, lord knows if flash was not "going away" I would rather stay with something I know as well (namely this arcade) but the truth of the matter is, at some point, it will end as that is what the guru's in the internet business want to happen.

Anyway, I just wanted to address this point as it is something that annoyed the crap out of me as well (all of the adverts in the HTML5 games), if you have not at least tried some of the HTML5 games on my other site, you should at least pop in and give them a try, they are much much better than they were in the beginning

Thanks again for your response, and hope you do not take this as an attack on your post

#95495 This is very irritating

Posted by Ronald on 20 July 2019 - 08:38 AM

I recall back when you were on the ibProArcade forum, and they were all asking for a upgrade, I remember you asking for help many times, oh yea, there were promises made to you, but from the looks, no one showed up..

Legion I like you tried to help this same person, he even had a balls to ask me to ask the other arcade forum owners to ask there members to visit his forum, to get it located on the map..

I have removed his Affiliate with my forum, when I leave here I will also Ban his name..

Sure we'd all love to see a brand new arcade for the updated IPB boards, but I like some others know nothing about the workings or the codes of the arcade. I have a friend Chen who took over the SMF Arcade, and has slowly began to get it working again, it's better than it use to be..

Legion you do a great job on keeping the Arcade updated and up and running, I'm sorry I can't help you with the coding, but I sure do support you and appreciate the help you have given me. I am happy with the IPB 3.4 forum even though it is no longer being supported.

Legion keep up the great work, I'm with you 100%, if I can ever help you in anyway, all you need do is ask..

Ron.

Because this game (and the other you reported, kings klondike) are flash games, no one is providing support for them anymore as the browsers will discontinue providing flash use by next year so they are slowly fading out of the picture, for now though, if you play in a regular window (this will NOT work in full screen), right click in the center of the game window and click play in the menu that opens

#76383 For those who use apache for their web server read this

Posted by Legionaire on 09 September 2018 - 06:15 AM

it has been brought to my attention that some problems with new games may be caused by apache itself.  Apache does not set case-insensitive on the server, what this means is that if a folder is tagged as using en-us and apache looks for en-US then it does not load the files correctly.  There is however, a global fix for this that can be found here

http://www.osguides....nsensitive.html

Now no one expects every admin of a site to know how to do this, GOD knows I did not, but if you pass the information on to your hosting provider they should be able to do this for you, once this is done there should be no more problems with games, well except for incorrect submission codes etc....

One game this affected, which brought lite to the fact that the above data (provided in the link) would correct this problem

You do not have to do this as it may only affect a few games, but for all of them to work correctly, then perhaps you would want to get this done, who knows it may clear up some issues with other games that did not load correctly :shrug:

as a quick fix, you can this to your .htaccess file on your forum root

<IfModule mod_speling.c>
    CheckSpelling On
    CheckCaseOnly On
</IfModule>

#44070 Games not showing in your profile

Posted by Legionaire on 29 November 2016 - 12:24 AM

There have been a few that have noticed that their games are no longer showing in their profiles (Arcade Profile tab).  You can change the setting that not only allows you to see your games / scores, but will allow other members to see them as well,  Follow these two easy steps to show your games in your profile

Attached File  noscores.jpg   29.92KB   0 downloads

Attached File  noscores2.jpg   63.79KB   0 downloads

There are now other settings that you can set there as well such as the order the games are shown in, how they are shown (by date added, number of games to show per page, games to show per row etc...)

IF you do not want others to see what games you have scores on, you can leave the profile set to no and look at "Your Rankings" (tab provided on the arcade navbar) which will show your top 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place games
